The Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network (AREDN): what is it, how can it be used, current activities, and how you too can get involved? Join us at the March RWK meeting to learn about the rapidly growing interest in AREDN operation and how to setup your own AREDN node helping to establish a regional high speed wireless data network.

Bill Werner AE5FM will provide a brief overview of the AREDN technology and discuss how commercial-off-the-shelf Wi-Fi equipment can be easily modified for use in the amateur radio bands to form a wireless peer-to-peer mesh network, a networking topology that enables a robust self-configuring, self-healing high speed digital communications grid. This is your opportunity to ask questions and find out more about this compelling aspect of amateur radio communications.

Following the presentation, meet with several members of the North Texas AREDN SIG demonstrating operating nodes and see how common communication devices can be used to interface with the network. Also see examples of how the network may be utilized in EmCom situations.

RWK has had an AREDN node in operation on the Palisades Bldg since September with plans for expanded coverage going forward. At the meeting learn about this and other wide area coverage nodes in the area including K5UTD.
